Custom aluminum parts made to your drawing
This service is for buyers sourcing components for automation, machinery and industrial equipment. Typical enquiries include mounting brackets, machined plates, equipment housings, fixtures, spacers and sleeves. These are examples of part types to review, not a catalogue of stock products.
Your geometry determines the manufacturing route. CNC milling is relevant to parts with pockets, slots, mounting faces and drilled features. CNC turning is relevant to rotational features such as outside diameters, bores, shoulders and threads. Some drawings require both processes.
What to specify before an aluminum part is quoted
| Requirement | What to include in your RFQ |
|---|---|
| Alloy and condition | Write the complete specification, for example 6061-T6 or 7075-T6. If an alternative is allowed, identify who must approve it. Material availability and suitability are confirmed during review. |
| Drawing revision | Send a 3D STEP file and dimensioned PDF when available. Keep the part number, units and revision consistent across files. |
| Critical features | Identify mating faces, fits, threaded holes and dimensions that affect assembly. Specify the datum references and inspection requirements on the drawing. |
| Surface condition | Separate functional roughness requirements from cosmetic expectations. State where visible tool marks are acceptable and where appearance matters. |
| Finish | If anodizing or another finish is required, include the specification, colour, masking areas and whether dimensions apply before or after treatment. |
| Quantity and destination | State the initial quantity, expected repeat batch size and delivery country. Include a target date for feasibility review. |
Prototype and small-batch enquiries
You can enquire about an initial sample batch and later production quantities in the same request. Price is not determined by material weight alone: programming, workholding, machining operations, finishing and inspection all affect the quotation. Separating sample quantities from repeat quantities helps clarify the cost of each stage.
If a drawing has deep pockets, thin walls, multiple setups or several critical fits, flag those features before comparing quotes. Ask each supplier to quote the same drawing revision, material and inspection scope. A lower price with different assumptions is difficult to compare.
Agree quality requirements before production
RB TradeBridge coordinates the commercial and project communication; manufacturing is carried out by partner factories. Tim reviews the request with the manufacturing partner and brings back questions on feasibility, pricing and the proposed schedule.
Specify any required material documentation, dimensional report, first-article review or packing instructions in the RFQ. The applicable tolerance, inspection method, finish and delivery commitment are agreed for the individual project. See our quality and inspection review process for the details to confirm.
Aluminum CNC machining questions
Can you quote from a STEP file alone?
A STEP file is a useful starting point. Include a PDF drawing for dimensions, tolerances, threads, surface finish and other requirements that the 3D model does not define. If you only have one file, send it and explain what still needs clarification.
Can the same supplier coordinate machining and finishing?
Include both in the enquiry. We review the proposed process route and responsibilities with the manufacturing partner. Finish availability and acceptance criteria must be confirmed before an order is agreed.
How do I send confidential drawings?
Contact Tim before sharing files if you require an NDA or a specific transfer method. The enquiry form accepts an authorised drawing link. You can also send attachments by email.
